Page description languages or PDLs as they are more commonly called, are being used in lay outing of printed page which contains graphics and texts.Here are two examples of PDLs, Postscript and HPGL (the HP or Hewlett Packard version). PDLs are being used almost exclusively in desktop publishing; this is the file format that is being sent from a computer to the printer.

Palette is a term that is almost the same as a painter’s palette which contains or holds all the colors that can be used, from the palette a designer can chose from a range of colors, which colors he'll be using. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that the number of colors that you see on screen means having the same number of palettes. For example, for a given card which allows you to display 256 colors at a time from a palette having 32, 768 colors.

If an atom is the smallest particle of matter, pixel is known as the smallest element of an image and it is also the unit used in expressing the resolution. VGA graphics’ normal resolution will be 640x480 pixels, this resolution has a total of 307, 200 pixels. If an image has a low resolution, for example 300x200, this means that the image has only 64,000 pixels; an image with high resolution such as 1024x768 has a total of 786,432 pixels.
